Game Awards to focus more on depth!
In recent years, Game Awards has always been criticized for not valuing the depth of games when giving awards. Although it is not always the case, there are many games which were considered undeserved winner. Now, that is about to change!
Game Awards to focus more on depth!
It may seem obvious, but Game Awards have not always been based on the depth of the game. One such example is No Man’s Sky. The game has been sort of a controversy among gamers. Although it is considered one of the best adventure games, it still fell short of expectations for many. Despite that, the game still has some unforeseeable influence on the industry. Steam has tightened its regulation regarding screenshots, which many has interpreted as a reaction to “bullshots” – another way of saying false marketing via screenshots for games.
Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley has recently shared that he played a role in hyping up the game. He admitted that he has helped created a mess for the game, that he developers are stuck deep in it, and cannot get out. He hoped that this year, the developers will be more transparent about the state of the games they would reveal, so as not to mislead the audience. As a result, this year’s Game Awards will take a deeper look at each of the new reveals, rather than running through a 30-second cinematic teaser. He promised that the audience will be surprised at this year’s event.
On No Man’s Sky, Keighley also said that he game sure fell short of its goals, but it is quite inevitable. The game had an “idealized notion” of how it would turn out from the moment it was first announced. He also said that he knew the team behind the game, which were just eight people. The vision they had were impossible from the start. Hopefully, they can get back on track soon!
Game Awards based on depth: A necessary move!
With this move, we can expect great reveals at this year’s Game Awards. It will take place on December 1, and will be streamed live on Twitch, Youtube, Steam, and other media channels. Also, this year Hideo Kojima will finally get his award!
