Crytek Studio, which is most famous for the series Crysis, has closed some of its subsidiaries at the end of last year. However, recently one of the closed Crytek Studio has been reborn, with a different name.
Closed Crytek Studio reborn with a new name!
Crytek, the game developer many gamers know for the Crysis series, has shut down some of its subsidiaries at the end of 2016. There were 5 shutdowns to be exact. However, recently, an previous branch, Crytek Black Sea, has re-emerged with a new name: Black Sea Games. It is now an independent studio. That means this new studio will now make games without any influence of Crytek, as well as not being part of any Crytek games (unless Crytek outsourced them).
The company states on its website that it was established in November 2016, which is before Crytek’s subsidiaries closure announcement. This suggests that the shutting down of those studios are even earlier than reported. The website also confirms that the studio is working on a new project, but will not disclose anything further. It is highly speculated to be a new game – this is a game studio, after all. We will have to wait and see if Black Sea Games can do better without Crytek.
The new company is lead by Vesselin Hanjiev, who was managing director while the company was still under Crytek. Actually, he was the one who founded Black Sea Studios back in 2001, before being purchased by Crytek in 2008. He also had the same role in Black Sea Studios. Now, Black Sea Games is an independent game company again, it has its own mission statement. It will now focuses on giving the players freedom of choices inside the game, and that games will have big replay value. Let’s wait and see what they can do!
Closed Crytek Studio reborn: Look to the future
We cannot tell whether this will be good or not for Black Sea Games without the help from Crytek. Hopefully we will have good games from this studio in the future!
