Beyond Nokia group: a family of former Nokia workers
Nokia restructuring has left thousands of workers lost their jobs. After left the company, these sacked employees just want to keep in touch with other former colleagues. Among those sacked workers, there are Verena Rentrop and Elsie Parumog. Although the two people live far from each other, they talk to each other frequently. They had an idea of setting up a Facebook group called Beyond Nokia group to help themselves and other former colleagues can keep in touch with each other more easily and relieve the sadness. Rentrop said that she did not expect much people to join the group at first. Yet, she couldn’t believe that after just a few days, the number of people joining the group has reached 2000. And after a week, there were 19.000 former colleagues joining the group. This left her very surprised.
After the information about Nokia comeback, the group is even more excited and full of praises about their former company. It shows how great their love towards Nokia is. Sotiris Makrygiannis who is used to be R&D director of Nokia at Helsinki said people in the group talk about Nokia like love stories. And he has never seen such people admiring former company like them. Nokia has fired them, but they still love the company. And the question is why they do so. Rentrop didn’t explain but smiled and looked at Nokia slogan “Connecting people”. She said that Nokia is not a workplace, it’s their family.
In the Beyond Nokia group, members recall memories by uploading their photos and messages when they were at Nokia. They even share their new projects and concept phones made by themselves. In the group, members even talk about chocolate. Poland, hometown of Nokia is famous for maintaining the original and pure flavor of chocolate while other Western countries have changed it. The members also share about their travalling experiences. They travelled around the world and tried chocolate from every countries. Yet, they just love made-in-Poland chocolate.
The future of Beyond Nokia group
Now Nokia has official website for “Nokia people” which aim to connect former employees and extend Nokia family. Beyond Nokia group now has more than 21,000 members and continues to grow up in quantity.
