Android P review: indoor positioning, better notifications and more!

Today, Google has published their first ever Developer Preview of their next OS – Android P. For now, only a few Pixel users can access to test the OS before its release. Android P is now placed under the alpha tag, which means if you want to try it out, be ready for many bugs and unfixed batches. On the other hand, we witnessed the rise of the iPhone X’s notch design on various Android phones this year. As a result, the Android P is going to carry the OS-level support for the dreaded screen notch.

On the other hand, Android P shows that you can also receive indoor positioning via Wi-Fi RTT (known as 802.11mc). So what does it mean? If your handset has the hardware to support this feature, RTT APIs can help to measure the distance to nearby Wi-Fi access points. Moreover, you don’t need to connect your handset to that hardware. Furthermore, by identifying the gap between your phone to each APs, we can calculate your position more accurately up from 1 to 2 meters.

Additionally, we are going to see the appearance of many indoor navigation applications soon. Android P review unveils the possibility of a “disambiguated voice control” feature. With this apps, your handset can identify your control message and base on your location to follow up the orders. And if you’re worried about the messaging notifications, Android P can be the OS for you. This new operating system equips more features in your messaging apps. You can find pictures and stickers, with smart replies ready for enable in the apps. Lastly, Google is going to alter the notification panel and Quick Settings toggles’ design.

When will Android P final build arrive?

According to our source, the next Developer Preview is coming in May. Moreover, two more reviews are going to follow in June and July, respectively. Based on Google’s plan, Android P final build is going to be available for Google Pixels users in September. And the global launch might start right after.
