For long, we have had the impression that Windows smartphones come with stronger and more efficient multitasking ability compared to Android and iOS phones. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always seem to be that great. And unimpressive multitasking is only one among 4 things I hate about Windows smartphones.
Unimpressive multitasking
Windows smartphones are produced based on the inspiration of your PC platform. Unlike Android, which is more concerntrated on the entertainment side, Windows smartphones are targeted as “handy working machines” that allow users to have smooth and strong performance, even when working on multiple apps at the same time. However, users’ feedbacks been telling the opposite for the past few years: multi tasking is totally find for the processor, but for the users themselves. This means, although the “core machine” has zero problem loading a lot of programs, the UI is not efficient enough to save cache. Therefore, many common apps like Skype even don’t run smoothly in the background.
To add to the problem, the multitasking command on Windows smartphones is a bit too complicated to perform. For example, when you long press the go back button, it will open the running apps pending in the background. However, if you accidentally press the same button, your current app will close down. These 2 actions are quite similar to one another, making it both confusing and annoying for many users. In general, Windows smartphones’ multitasking is not really an ideal offer for an average users, but rather for more advanced tech-competent people.
Messed up sync function
Mostly all smartphones nowdays easily sync the user’s email id and their others contact lists like Facebook profile, phone list and so on. And of course, Windows smartphones are all capable of this too. But (there is always a but, yes) the problems occur when you have to switch off or reset your phone. When you restart the machine, your current contact list is kinda messed up. The phone then has to download again the profiles and friends you saved at a cloud storage. Not only do you have to sync them all over again, you will have to face with duplication, tons of duplication of contacts, because Windows doesn’t detect and deleted the already-exit information. That does sound like a nuisance and tiring laborious task that can really get on your nerves. And that actually is such a pain.
No Wi-Fi sleep policy
Though this only appears on Windows 8 OS, the struggle is still real. This is what we call the No Wi-fi sleep policy: when you turn off the screen, the wifi will be automatically deactivated in the next 30 seconds. This means, 30 seconds before your phone goes to sleep, no Facebook message, Viber SMS or email will go through and give you notification. This is only good for those who don’t want to be disturbed during their sleep when they forget to turn on Wi-fi. But this is really annoying for those who need to constantly work on the phone the stay responsive with all kinds of messages.
The old-as-earth design
Admit it or not: Windows smartphones don’t come in very fancy designs. But thats not the main problem. Thing is, many of the new models come with the 80-percent-similar appearance to its predecessors. This is especially true when you consider the Microsoft Lumia series: they are hardly different from each other. Don’t get me wrong, Windows phones do look very typical from others: you can tell Windows smartphones apart from Android and iPhone. However, you can’t really tell which is the Lumia 1020, Lumia 840 or Lumia 925… This lack of creativity and innovation is also a reason why less and less people are choosing Windows smarpthones over its counterparts.
Although there are still reasons why many people still choose Windows smartphones over Android and iOS, these are 4 things I really hate about the iOS. If you are using one, share with us your experience and your love-hate relationship with the machine.
